This sale commenced with general accumulations, including several better Pacific Island collections, and a small group of Literature lots. Rest of the World included a handpainted essay from the Bahamas, a nice array of Great Britain Penny Blacks, rare Labuan surcharge errors, Nauru KGV overprint varieties and scarcer Seahorse printings, a fine range of New Zealand including modern errors and bilingual pair sets from South West Africa. Two highlights of this section were in the NWPI issues, with a rarely offered example of the Second Wmk 2½d Kangaroo, SG 87, ex Belknap as well as the 2½d Kangaroo with 1 of ½ omitted, SG 107a, in a rare complete sheet.
Australian Colonies included better South Australia, Tasmania plate proofs and Victoria with a good selection of Beer Duty stamps and fine postal history. In Australian Commonwealth, a range of miscellaneous lots was followed by Kangaroos and an excellent offering of King George V material across all watermark types, with monograms, varieties, positional pieces and imprints to 1/4d, including both the 4d orange and 4d violet in single line Harrison imprint blocks of four. The later commemorative and definitive issues were highlighted by rarely offered King George VI plate numbers and die proofs, with Postal History and Aerophilately of the World concluding the sale. |
