Our final Sale for 2002 was highlighted by the spectacular ‘Parlington’ Collection of Great Britain, featuring items such as the rarely offered 1935 2½d Jubilee Prussian Blue and the famous KEVII 2d Tyrian Plum. This was perhaps the first time that the latter stamp had been offered at Auction in Australia. After spirited bidding in the room and by telephone, the ‘Tyrian Plum’ was knocked down for $50,000, which was an Australian record realisation for a non-Australian stamp.
Australian Commonwealth was again strongly represented, with a fine Kangaroos section, including an unmounted corner example of the First Wmk £2. This Sale also contained an outstanding range of Niue proofs and stamps. |
