Our Autumn Sale included another fine offering of Australian Colonies, one highlight being the Tasmania 1858 Convict Letter bearing the very rare ‘Prisoners Letter (Crown) Port Arthur’ handstamp. Australian Commonwealth contained many important items, with three different watermark £2 Kangaroo Imprint pairs, King George V varieties and imprints, including 1d red shades and flaws, postage dues, postal history and some wonderful items for the Air Mail collector.
Rest of the World featured an outstanding range of booklets from Great Britain and Japan, New Guinea postal history, strong Papua and Tonga proofs. The standout section was New Zealand, with Chalon Heads, UPU Specimens and modern errors, as well as a fabulous selection of Postal History, including the unique usage cover bearing the ‘NEW ZEALAND/SHIP LETTER’ handstamp. Several covers with rare ‘MISSENT TO . . .’ handstamps were another highlight of the sale. |
