In Australian Colonies, New South Wales featured a quality group of imperforate Diadem issues both unused and used, with watermark errors and printing varieties, as well as a selection used in the Moreton Bay District (Qld); South Australia included an 1890 Postal Conference Presentation Book, containing adhesives and postal notes; in Tasmania fine proofs, particularly for the Sideface issues; and in Victoria, perhaps the finest known unused example of the 6d TOO LATE stamp.
Australian Commonwealth commenced with a good selection of Kangaroos, with values to £2 and some better multiples, followed by an extensive range of KGV issues across all watermarks from a Melbourne collection, with a fine range of 1d Reds, shades, varieties, monograms and imprints, including the 4d Orange and 4d Violet imprint blocks. Later issues were highlighted by the 1956 Olympics unissued 3½d value and Courvoisier colour separation proofs for the 2/- denomination.
The Pacific Is-Oceania section included selected singles and sets, with collections for many popular countries throughout. Featured were Gilbert and Ellice Islands and New Guinea postal history, the New Hebrides 1924 5d on 2½d surcharge inverted, useful New Zealand, Papua and New Guinea Postal Charges surcharge varieties and the final portion of an extensive Tonga collection, while the sale highlight was the outstanding Queensland used in Papua 1889 Granville cover. |
