    PACIFIC ISLANDS - OCEANIA, PAPUA

    Lot 627
    Estimate: $12,500 Realised Price : $11,000

Queensland used in: 1889 (Jul) 'Granville' cover to Nova Scotia bearing 1d and 6d (small faults), cancelled by 8-bar 'NG' obliterator with 'GRANVILLE/B.N.G.' datestamp alongside, Queensland transit and Windsor arrival backstamp. 1968 Robson Lowe Certificate of opinion stating 'The Queensland stamps used on an envelope from Granville July 1889, although not tied are believed to have been used on this cover. The writing is that of the The Hon.A. Musgrave, Secretary to the Lt.Governor of B.N.G.'……'the cover is addressed to Nova Scotia. This correspondence came to me from the Musgrave family about 1930. The top of the envelope has been cut away (it was probably ragged) and it is possible that the position of the stamps has been altered by a subsequent owner, although from the appearance of the inside of the envelope and the feel of the stamps (the indentation of the cancellation is noticeable) they have not been moved.' One of the great covers of Papua, in condition equal to or better than the other few known examples
