The ‘Capri Estate’ included Original state of dies 1d, 2d and 3d pairs, and a reconstruction of the 3d; Second state of dies 3d unused; Third state of Dies ‘abnormals’; “Vertical Drapes” and “White Veils” 1d unused (including a pair), 2d and 3d singles, pairs and examples on cover; Fourth state of dies 2d including the ‘Value Omitted’ retouch; Campbell & Co. and Campbell and Fergusson issues, including the 1d ‘squeezed transfer’ unused, and a reconstruction unused (less three stamps) of the 3d.
The Guy Linfield Stationery and Franks are among the best collections ever formed on these subjects, notable for their emphasis on usage. The Stationery included 1876 1d Postcard second issue; 1901 ‘POSTAGE’ 1d Lettercard cancelled FDI; PTPO 2d Envelope uprated paying quintuple rate; Sands and McDougall advertising types; Shire types; Registered Envelopes, nearly all types with ‘knife’ varieties; Wrappers with 1869 1d (front) used; and 1905 KEVII ½d advertising Lettersheet. The Franks included an unparalleled range of Ministerial envelopes; 1899 ‘Royal Mint’; the unique ‘Commander H M Sea Forces’ and ’Commissariat Staff’ entires; and many used to exotic destinations. |
