    1850-54 Half-Lengths Lithographed by Thomas Ham 3d Blue Third Printing (SG 7, large margins three sides, close at base) cancelled indistinct Butterfly 1 used on 1851 (25 Dec) entire from Melbourne to Rochester, Kent, manuscript '1/4' due from recipient and with Melbourne despatch and Rochester arrival datestamps, both in blue. Slight peripheral wear, otherwise fine

    1850-54 Half-lengths Lithographed by Thomas Ham 3d Blue Third Printing Type 2 showing 'Retouch in Background Right of Crown', close to good margins, slight thin at top centre. SG 7a, cat £375

    1850-54 Half-lengths Lithographed by Thomas Ham 3d Pale Greenish-blue Third State of die left marginal strip of 4 used on 1853 (2 Dec) envelope (220 x 90mm) from Melbourne to Braintree, Essex. Strip touched in places and tied by Barred Oval 1 obliterators, diagonal crease in upper left selvedge. Manuscript '4/' due on arrival, and with arrival cds in red on reverse. Two small tears at top of envelope and flap tears reinforced with hinges, otherwise of fine appearance

    1850-54 Half-lengths Lithographed by Thomas Ham 2d Dull Brownish-lilac Sixth Printing variety 'Retouch to N.E. Corner Square and Upper Right Frame' (Type 23), fine unused without gum, small but clear margins (barely touching at base), good colour. Tiny black dot on dress and trace of slight crease in the upper half of the stamp on reverse (not visible from front). A major Half-length rarity, and the only unused example of this retouch which we record, ex Purves and Perry. SG 15e, cat £10000

    1854-57 Half-Lengths Lithographed by Campbell & Fergusson 1d Brick-red Stone 2 showing unofficial roulettes on all four sides, fine and cancelled Barred Numeral '1'. SG 26a var, with 1986 BPA Certificate

    1854-80 Woodblock small used collection with 6d Orange imperf (2) and serpentine roulette, 6d Black (2), 2/- Green Perf 12 (2), 2/- Blue on Green (4), 6d Too Late (poor) and 1/- Registered (2, one fine). Also 1d (2) and 6d (4) Queen-on-Throne, and 1856? (2 Dec) cover from Melbourne to Hamilton franked 3d Half-length (damaged) and 1d Queen-on-Throne (21 + 1 cover)

    1857-64 Emblems used collection on pages with 1d (12), 2d (12), and 4d (16), various printings, including 1d Pale Emerald imperf strip of 4 (SG 62, cut into). Also three covers from the Jamieson correspondence, with 1860 franked 2d Violet on horizontal laid (SG 70), 1863 with 2d Wmk THREE PENCE pair (some faults), and 1857 with fine 4d Imperf (40 + 3 covers)

    1857 Emblems Watermark Large Star 1d Yellow-green (SG 41) strip of 3 and single (the latter with damaged upper left corner) used on 1858 (17 February) cover from Melbourne to Belfast, tied by Barred Numeral '1', and with despatch and receipt (22 FE) backstamps

    Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $160

    1860-66 small used collection on leaves with Beaded Oval 3d Blue (3), 4d (6, incl pair Wmk FIVE SHILLINGS), 6d Black, 1d Netted Corners (4), and 6d Adapted Die (2). Also 1860 and 1862 covers from Belfast or Melbourne to Hexham, the first with 4d Beaded Oval, and the other with 6d Black Beaded Oval (16 + 2 covers)

    1864-84 Laureates used collection on leaves, various printings represented including a few emergency printings, with 1d (8), 2d (19), 3d Lilac (2), 3d Orange (4), 4d (12), 6d (18), 8d Orange, 8d Brown (3), 10d Grey, 10d Purple-brown (2), 1/- (4), 5/- Blue and Red (5), ½d on 1d (2), 9d on 10d. Also covers from the Jamieson correspondence to Woorndoo, posted from Melbourne, Geelong, Warnambool or Ballarat, with 1d pairs (2), 2d pair or singles (5), and 4d (2), mostly fine. A useful group (82 + 10 covers)

    1867-81 Laureates Watermark V over Crown (V1) 5/- Blue on Yellow cancelled Melbourne duplex dated DC 28 67, fine. This famous stamp was first delivered into stock on 26 December 1867, so this example may be the earliest recorded date of use. SG 139, cat £450+

    1870 2d De La Rue design small collection on leaves, one unused (no gum) and used (10, one cancelled Geelong Butterfly 15). Also three covers from the Jamieson correspondence from Mortlake (2) or Ballarat to Woorndoo, generally fine (11 + 3 covers)

    1873-84 William Bell Designs used collection on pages with ½d (10 incl strip of 4), 1d (6), 2d (28, one cancelled Geelong Butterfly 15), 8d on 9d, 9d (3), 1/- (3), 2/-. Also six covers bearing 1d pair or 2d from the Jamieson correspondence addressed to Woorndoo. Mostly fine and a useful group (52 + 6 covers)

    1880-84 Naish Designs used collection on leaves with 1d (2), 2d Brown (9), 2d Mauve (2), 4d (3). Also covers from the Jamieson correspondence addressed to Woorndoo or Darlington, comprising 2d Brown (3), 2d Mauve and 4d. Mostly fine (16 + 5 covers)
