Lot 344		Estimate: $200 1842 (19 Nov) and 1849 (24 Nov) outers Sydney to London both with clear PAID SHIP LETTER/SYDNEY, both pre-paid '3'(d) and rated '8'(d) incoming mail. The rear of the first endorsed by John McKenny (1788-1847) Chair of Wesleyan Mission in New South Wales, the second with a very late arrival date of 30.7.1850 and carried on an unknown vessel. Both with central file folds though still clean (2)
Lot 345		Estimate: $200 1842 (22 Nov) entire Sydney to London rated '8'(d) on arrival and with London cds (17.5.1843) on rear. Contents written by H. Ferres re-ordering goods that had not arrived with a testimony from fellow merchant W. Roemer and an 1842 (20? Dec) reduced entire Sydney to London rated '3'(d) prepaid and '8'(d) arrival charge. Contents written by W. Roemer regarding the sale of £520 worth of debentures of the British Colonial Bank & Loan Co. Both with vertical creasing and peripheral faults though a fascinating insight into early local business. Typed transcripts of both included (2)
Lot 346		Estimate: $300 Realised Price : $230 1844 (13 Jun) entire Sydney to Glasgow carried on the 'Jane Goudie' (her departure apparently delayed by the insubordination of the crew) and rated '3' prepaid and '8'(d) due on arrival. The rear with London transit and framed Glasgow arrival markings. Contents written by Daniel McInnes, shoemaker of Port Macquarie with fascinating comments concerning the Church, Family, Commerce and Farming. He notes "My Famaly is prity considerable for I have got Seventeen mouths to fill every day....", "I have commenced to Tann and Currie my own leather..." and "Mrs McInnes is an excellent House Keeper and dery woman for she makes all the Butter herself...." Daniell McInnes and his wife Oscella (nee McGarvie) arrived in Sydney in 1836 with three children, he and his family moved to Port Macquarie early in the 1840's where he became Elder of the Presbyterian Church. Lot 347		Estimate: $200 Realised Price : $150 1844 (4 Sep) entire Sydney to London struck with a weak framed 'PAID AT/MAITLAND' and rated '8'(d) on arrived, deleted and re-rated '1'(d) for redirection to Oxford. The rear with Maitland, London and Oxford datestamps. Contents written by W.D. Halked to his cousin concerning life on a sheep station. He states "Mr Wyndham is going to settle in the Richmond River, between the Clarence river and Moreton Bay" and "I do not like the Liverpool plains so much as New England. It is so very dry and for 10,000 sheep I have not a drop of water". Soiled in places and rear opening faults though still an interesting entire. Full typed transcript included
Lot 348		Estimate: $400 1847 (23 Feb) entire posted in Sydney to London rated '3'(d) prepaid and rated '8'(d) upon arrival. The contents written on 21 September 1846 at Leone, on the Southern side of Tutuilla (Samoan Islands) by Thomas Bullen (1816?-1848) a missionary seeking a bill drawn on his salary. Bullen was buried on the island in the same plot as his infant son who died 12 months earlier. Former tape stains at left and right and ironed out horizontal crease though an uncommon example of missionary mail from Polynesia. Typed transcript included
Lot 349		Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $90 1847 (1 Mar) outer Sydney to London carried on the 'Sir George Seymour' pre-paid '3'(d) and rated '1/-' as a packet letter upon arrival, the rear with London arrival cds and 1847 (5 May) part outer also Sydney to London carried on the 'Brankenmoor', pre-paid '3'(d) and rated '8'(d) due. Framed 'INDIA LETTER/DEAL' unusually on face and London arrival cds on reverse. Both with file folds though showing the alternative arrival ratings. Also a GB 1890 Penny Postage Envelope & Postcard unused with central Commemorative pmk (2.7.1890), both toned (3)
Lot 350		Estimate: $120 1847 (21 Apr) part entire Sydney to Glasgow sent by the 'William Hyde' and rated '8'(d) on arrival. The rear with London transit and Glasgow box arrival markings. Contents from William Walker & Co regarding the importation and saleability of tobacco. Minor stain on face panel otherwise very clean
Lot 351		Estimate: $125 Realised Price : $120 1850 (9 Dec) entire Tarcutta to Albury with contents concerning commercial matters, bearing framed 'PAID AT/TARCUTTA' and mss '2d' on face, Tarcutta and Albury datestamps on reverse. Fine and clean
Lot 352		Estimate: $300 Realised Price : $440 1857 (21 Jan) entire Sydney to England bearing 2 x 6d Diadems (one four margins, the other just into at top right) both tied by Sydney obliterator and one additionally tied by London transit cds. The rear with Sydney departure and Manchester arrival cds (MY 9 1857). Carried on the 'Oneida' which broke down en route, forcing a return to King Georges Sound under sail. The contents concerning insolvency of the Macnab Brothers. Small repair to rear though an excellent example of a maritime disaster causing a two month disruption to the mail
Lot 353		Estimate: $900 1860? cover front to Scotland bearing 6d Diadem Perf 12 and Victoria 3d Half-length Perf 12 (2) all cancelled by ray-type numeral '50' of Deniliquin. A very rare franking combination for 'Riverina' mail. Ex Boker
Lot 354		Estimate: $300 1867 (29 May) registered cover Ten Mile Creek to Albury bearing 2d DLR & (6d) registration perf 13 both tied by faint ray type numeral. Few blemishes and small fault at rear though a scarce example of internal registered mail
Lot 355		Estimate: $250 1874 (17 Apr) cover endorsed 'per Ellora' and 'Via Brindisi' from South Head Road to Ireland bearing 9d on 10d and 1d DLR additionally tied by Limerick arrival cds, Sydney backstamp. Creased at right and some stains, still very few examples of 1d Galle surcharge are recorded
Lot 356		Estimate: $100 1878 (1 Feb) cover (with central stain) on TPO to Sydney bearing 2d DLR cancelled with indistinct small cds (almost certainly undated 'G.W.R.P/N.S.W'), with fine strikes of double lined 'G.W.R.P/N.S.W' cds and Sydney arrival cds on rear

A scarce franking, with approx 20 examples of this stamp on cover believed to exist. Fine and attractive
Lot 359		Estimate: $125 Realised Price : $95 1894 (6 Sep) printed OHMS Electoral Notice used locally at Narrandera, bearing Centennial 1d and 2d, both optd 'OS', tied by '242' in concentric ovals, mss 'left' and 'Unclaimed', and framed 'UNCLAIMED' marking on face, with Sydney GPO DLO datestamp on reverse. An unusual example of registered mail sent free of postal charges. Fine and scarce
Lot 360		Estimate: $75 1900 (3 Apr) inwards cover from Orange Free State to Sydney franked 'V.R.I./1d' (2) on Een penny and 'V.R.I./½d' on Half penny tied by two strikes of the Bloemfeontein cds and the rear with Sydney and Edgecliff arrival cds. Defective in places though the cover addressed to Colonel Charles Roberts Aide de Campe to the Governor and one time Commander of Military Forces in NSW
Lot 361		Estimate: $50 1901 (5 Aug) 1d + 1d intact Reply Post Card, each side uprated with ½d Green, used at Orange and addressed to a ship in Canada, redirected on arrival to Portsmouth where GB 1½d adhesive affixed to reply side and posted back to Australia. Soiled and one of the message sides pasted over, still a very unusual and scarce use
