Mail to Australian Prisoners of War: 1917 (17 May) 1d Red KGV Military Lettercard (BW LCM2, cat AU$2000) used from Piangil (Vic) and addressed to Private James Pentland 6575 in the 4th Infantry Battalion. Pentland was reported missing in France on 15 May 1917, but later was reported to be a prisoner-of-war. Lettercard endorsed 'POW' and redirected, with circular 'Pruftungsstelle/Gepruft/62/MERSEBURG' in violet. Fine and a major Australian postal stationery rarity, being one of only two military lettercards (of either type) recorded used  | ||
