    1854 (31 May) cover from Parramatta to Newtown, Sydney with 2d Plate II Laureate Watermark Double-lined '2' (four margins) cancelled '2' numeral, and with 'FORWARD/N.S.W.' datestamp, Parramatta oval crowned backstamp. The scarce Forward marking was used for missorted mail sent to Sydney

Franked for a single rate, but with mss '4/-' due from addressee indicating letter was overweight. Some ageing and soiling

    1855 (Nov) registered cover from Sydney to Birmingham with 1/- Rosy-vermilion Imperf Diadem (margins all round, large on three sides) tied by barred obliterator, and with 'Registered/Sydney' in red. Indistinct Sydney despatch' 'AUSTRALIAN/LIVERPOOL/PACKET' and Birmingham arrival datestamps on reverse. 6d ship letter plus 6d registration fee, with handstruck '5' accountancy mark and 'd6' incoming registration charge. A fine early registered letter

One 6d crossed by vertical filing crease, still a scarce 2/- Marseilles rate cover

    1857 (10 Dec) envelope from Sydney to Leicester U.K. bearing imperf 1d Orange-red (torn in lower right corner) cancelled dumb obliterator, and endorsed 'From Geo. Millican, Seaman on board H.M.S. "Herald", Australian Station', signed by John Hutchinson (Commanding Officer). Leicester arrival backstamp, FE 7 58. Very rare, believed to be one of only two military concessional rate covers bearing an imperf N.S.W. stamp, ex Trevor Davis and Ed Druce

Missing back flap, but a fine usage demonstrating the supplementary mail rate of 6d ship plus 6d supplementary fee to carry mail to Melbourne to connect with the U.K. steamer

Some flap damage otherwise fine

A very fine and attractive example of the 9d ¼ ounce rate

The cover rather flimsy and repaired at top, left and rear flap and portion of the reverse missing nonetheless of good appearance
