Our first sale for 2003 featured the ‘Canon’ Collection of Australian Decimal Errors, comprising outstanding rarities of the 1975 to 1990 period, including Essays and Proofs. A feature of this award-winning collection was the number of errors shown in positional pieces or largest known multiples. The collection contained many unique items and this Sale provided a once in a generation opportunity to acquire the great items from this period.
The strong Australian section included fine Kangaroos, King George V heads with scarce varieties in positional pieces and a lovely selection of Postage Dues, including one of two recorded used examples of the rare 1913-21 Thin Paper 3d value with sideways watermark. Australian Colonies featured NSW Sydney Views, particularly the 1d and 2d values, in multiples and on Cover, some of which have graced the famous collections of Ferrary, Amundsen, Boker and Frankenstein. Rest of the World featured Great Britain; New Guinea; New Zealand, including an exquisite 1/- Chalon bisect on Cover; and Tonga, including the Janet Klug ‘Tin Can Mail’ Collection. |
