Our final auction for 2008 opened with collections and accumulations, a selection of literature (which proved very popular) and Australian Colonies, with notable sections of South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
Australian Commonwealth commenced with miscellaneous lots, followed by Kangaroos featuring the unique First Wmk 5/- mint pair with Doubly Printed Frame and the only known example of the 10/- Die Proof in Black. The KGV issues included a 1d Perkins Bacon Die Proof and the only cover bearing two examples of the 2d Postal Forgery. The KGVI and QEII period had a nice selection of Imprint and Plate No. blocks, plate varieties and missing colours; Booklets from KGV to ultra-high value modern issues; Postage Dues featured the rare 1913-21 3d Sideways Wmk and the 1922-30 2d Imperforate at left; Revenues, Stationery, Postal History and Railways.
Rest of the World featured a broad range of British Commonwealth countries with better issues from QV to QEII, China Peoples Republic mini sheets and selected sets, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Kuwait with probably the record franking for this country on a 1948 registered airmail cover, a fine Military Mail section (which includes Australian material), Nauru with rarely offered plate numbers on the Ships issue, New Guinea, better New Zealand from QV to modern errors, Papua New Guinea including Courvoisier essays, Samoa, South West Africa including Postage Dues and United States of America missing colours and a Jacqueline Kennedy mourning cover. |
