This sale commenced with micellaneous Collections, followed by a fine Australian Colonies section. Highlights in New South Wales included the Sydney View Plate II 2d Lilac-Blue with variety ‘No whip’, Tasmania featured a fine group of Second Allocation cancellations on Chalon issues, Victoria with choice Half-Lengths and Queen-on-Throne issues, and in Western Australia fine stamps and Revenues, including perhaps the best Revenue cover we have seen, bearing the 1d, 2/6d and 5/- Long type on registered cover to Canada.
Australian Commonwealth featured Kangaroos to £2, King George V State 2 and 3 Die Proofs, imprints, varieties and better singles. The KGVI and QEII issues were augmented by a nice group of First Day Covers, including rarely offered ‘Collinridge Rivett’ numbered types, followed by a sprinkling of Decimal errors, Booklets, a further selection of the ‘John Larson’ Postage Dues, Postal History, including useful WWII Military items and Aerophilately including covers and vignettes.
Rest of the World commenced with an interesting array of mostly British Empire covers. Also featured were China, with a fine two volume collection of Manchuria; another impressive range of New Zealand, with Second Sideface issues including Proofs, Pictorials, King George V recess and surface printed issues, also with a fine array of Proofs in singles and blocks; modern South Africa errors in multiples; and in South West Africa a fine range of stamps, Proofs, Officials and Postage Dues. |
