The sale commenced with Collections and Accumulations, followed by our usual strong selection of Australian Colonies. Highlights included Tasmania Sideface Proofs, fine Postal Fiscals and Cancellations, with a few collections and many better singles offered separately. Victoria featured strong offerings of Half-lengths, Queen-on-Throne and Woodblock issues, as well as lots from the Guy Linfield collection.
Australian Commonwealth featured Kangaroos to £2, King George V imprint blocks and commemorative issues in sheets, a fine range of KGVI and QEII issues, Booklets, Postage Dues including the 20/- with stroke unmounted and Postal History with Victoria registered covers. The Military section featured good WWII stationery and covers from many theatres of war, and in Aerophilately a range of covers and vignettes is highlighted by the unmounted 1919 Ross Smith vignette with margins.
Rest of the World contained a wide range of British Empire collections, singles, sets and postal history, including New Guinea and PNG with superb WWII Military Mail and fine South Africa and South West Africa. Highlights were the second portion of a superb New Zealand collection, with strength in KGV Proofs, varieties, Plate No. and Imprint blocks and an impressive (and large) collection of early to modern Tonga with appeal to all specialist collectors. |
