This sale was held following Stamp Expo 2007 in Sydney and commenced with Collections and Accumulations, featuring a nice KGVI printed album collection, and several Literature lots, followed by a strong offering of Australian Colonies. Highlights included the best 20th century Northern Territory collection ever formed, selected Victoria Half-lengths, Queen-on-Throne and an important group of Woodblock adhesives and covers, and in Western Australia the 1894 Coolgardie Cycle 1/- and 2/6d in complete sheets of 35 with Double perforations at base.
Australian Commonwealth featured Kangaroos to £2, King George V punctured OS imprint blocks, pre-decimals with Sydney Harbour Bridge 5/- JOHN ASH imprint strip, KGVI 6d Kookaburra showing Plate No. 2 (a new discovery), and a useful range of First Day Covers including the 1948 No Wmk 1d Princess and ½d Kangaroo imprint blocks of four on OHMS Thompson covers and the 1954 1/- Postage Due on FDC, decimal missing colours and proofs, and Postage Dues with the 20/- stroke after value. Rest of the World included better Cook Islands, Fiji and Nauru, while the highlight was the colour trial separations of Papua New Guinea, never before offered on the Australian market. |
