Our final auction for 2006 commenced with a useful group of general collections and accumulations, including an ex-dealer cover stock, as well as a sprinkling of Literature. Rest of the World featured strong sections of Aden postal history (a further portion of the Gary Brown International Large Gold medal collection); Malta missing colours; New Zealand, with a further range of modern errors; and Samoa, with useful Express and Palm Tree issues, as well as the 5/- on 5M G.R.I. on cover and Arms values to £10.
Australian Colonies as usual featured a fine range of stamps and postal history, in particular from Victoria and Western Australia, while the strength of this sale was in Australian Commonwealth, including a notable offering of Kangaroo issues across all watermark types, including officials, and with numerous £1 and £2 values. The King George V issues were also well represented with 1d Red shades, plating studies for various denominations, scarce multiples and varieties (some in positional pieces), imprints and monograms, watermark varieties and covers. Later issues were highlighted by the 10/- Robes Specimen block of ten and a range of Decimal errors, with a selection of Booklets, Postage Dues, postal stationery, postal history and Aerophilately, including first flights and vignettes, concluding the sale. |
