This sale featured Australia and Colonies material that has not been seen for over 40 years. Undoubted highlights were "The Magnificent Seven" Third Wmk Kangaroos overprinted SPECIMEN in blocks of four, including the unique 10/- Type C and £1 Grey Type B blocks. These multiples were last offered as a group in 1961 (at an estimate of £20!) and were thought to have been broken up long ago - today they realised in excess of $60,000. The KGVI and QEII issues were also well represented with perforation varieties, plate numbers and missing colours, while the impressive Postage Dues section featured all the monocolour high values in fine condition.
Australian Colonies included superb Long Type high values of South Australia in CTO blocks of four and the Stamp Statute and Stamp Duty issues of Victoria in quantity, including several irreplaceable ex-Purves studies. Rest of the World contained strong sections of British West Indies, the Baltic area, France, Germany (including outstanding propaganda issues) and Switzerland, while the sale concluded with a select group of rare U.P.U. Receiving Authority Specimens from the archive of Portuguese India. |
