This sale was devoted to the stamps and postal history of Australasia, and featured The ‘Pericles’ Collection of King George VI Issues and The William McCredie Collection of Specimen and UPU Stamps.
We were honoured to offer The ‘Pericles’ Collection (Lots 515-709), formed by one of the finest students of Australian Commonwealth philately during the past 50 years. This was undoubtedly the best holding of its type to appear in the market for a generation, and was noteworthy for the extensive range of rare plate numbers, many of which have not been on the market for 30 years. We were privileged to offer the collection of Australian Specimen and UPU Stamps formed by the late William (Bill) McCredie (Lots 227-339). While not as comprehensive as his Australian Colonies Specimens sold by us in June 2011, this collection was still remarkable for its range of unusual material.
