    ½d Kangaroo folded sheet of 160 [Sheet A] showing complete Plate No. '1' without dashes, BW 180z, caused by mis-guillotining to such extent that there is no lower selvedge below the first three units of the left-hand pane. Very fine unmounted and a major plate number rarity, being the only recorded example. Cat AU$5000

    ½d Kangaroo Sheet B gutter block of nine showing large portion of Plate No. '3' with dash and lines at right, BW 180zb. Hinged in selvedge and on one unit only. A very important piece, being the only recorded example of this number. Cat AU$5000

    ½d Kangaroo Sheet A upper gutter block of 36 showing complete Plate No. '4' without dashes, BW 180zc. Very fine, hinged in selvedge and gutter only. A major plate number rarity, being the only recorded example. Cat AU$5000

    ½d Kangaroo folded sheet of 160 [Sheet C] showing large portion of Plate No. '4' without dashes at base, BW 180zd. Few tone spots at top of right pane, otherwise fine unmounted. Rare, with only several examples recorded, most of which have coil perforation. Cat AU$3500

    ½d Kangaroo Sheet C gutter block of 12 with imprint, showing complete Plate No. '4' without dashes, BW 180zd. Very fine, hinged on three units only. Probably 4-5 examples are recorded. Cat AU$3500

    ½d Kangaroo punctured 'VG' Sheet B top gutter block of 30 showing complete Plate No. '4' with dashes. Small stains in gutter and top right corner, plus tear in one stamp. The only recorded example of this number, currently unlisted in the ACSC

     

    Lot 685
    Estimate: $1,250

    1½d QE Sheet A gutter block of 12 showing a portion of what is almost certainly Plate No. '19'. Currently unlisted in the ACSC, this number is a different shape to Plate No. '19' with dashes (Sheet B). [The ACSC note is possibly incorrect, and all Plate No. '19' examples showing no crack at base may be without dashes and from Sheet A]. Fine, most units unmounted

    2d KGVI Sheet A upper gutter block of 20 showing complete Plate No. '2' without dashes, BW 229z. Fine unmounted and the only recorded example. Cat AU$5000

    2d KGVI Sheet B gutter block of eight showing complete Plate No. '5' with dashes, BW 229zb, due to a paper fold. Creased through left block as a result of the fold, otherwise fine unmounted and one of only 3-4 recorded examples. Cat AU$3500

    4d Koala variety 'retouch to four lines above right of 'IA' ', BW 199g, perfin with machine cancel. A very rare plate variety, with less than six used examples recorded. Cat AU$500

    4d Koala varieties 'colour spot below right border right of last A of AUSTRALIA ', BW 199h, and 'retouch to five lines above right of 'IA' ', BW 199ha, both fine used. The retouch occurred just prior to replacement of the stamp, with less than six used examples recorded. Cat AU$600

    4d Koala varieties 'colour flaw below left of first A of AUSTRALIA ', BW 199j, and 'retouch to four lines below first A of AUSTRALIA ', BW 199ja, both fine used with machine cancels. Although there is no proof, it is believed this flaw and retouch represent two states of the same unit. Very rare varieties, with less than 6 examples of each recorded. Cat AU$1000

    4d Koala variety 'retouch to four lines below first A of AUSTRALIA ', BW 199ja, fine used with cds cancel. A rare variety, with less than six used examples known. Cat AU$500

    4d Koala variety 'crack through top of last A of AUSTRALIA ', BW 199k, fine used with machine cancel. Another rare plate variety which occurred just prior to replacement of this stamp, with fewer than six used examples known. Cat AU$500

    4d Koala Sheet B gutter block of 12, BW 199zb, showing large portion of Plate No. '7' with dash and horizontal lines to right. Few small gum thins but an important plate number, being the only one recorded [one example of Plate No. '7' from Sheet A also exists]. Cat AU$5000

    6d Kookaburra Sheet B irregular block of 44 with Type III perf pips and additional 'Roving' pip in top left corner, BW 204bf, showing listed varieties on L6/3 and 8/3, and L2/2 variety 'Recut shading lines between 'US' and 'beak' '. Also upper left corner block of four with 'Roving' pip showing original weakness over bird's beak at L2/2, possibly the only example known in this state (see ACSC Note 3). Very rare. Cat AU$250+

    6d Kookaburra study on leaves of the electros used, with shades, blocks demonstrating different perf pip types, burnishing of imprints, and a comprehensive collection of all the listed plate varieties, mostly in mint positional pieces, some matched with wmkd blocks (303)

    1/- Lyrebird Sheet B block of 40 showing the famous 'Green Mist' retouch on L9/3, BW 210g. Fine unmounted and rare in such a large mint positional piece. Cat AU$2000+

    1/- Lyrebird 'Green Mist' retouch, BW 210g, fine used. One of only two used examples of this rare variety which have been reported. Cat AU$1500

    1/- Lyrebird with uncatalogued variety 'retouched shading lines right of tail' as lower stamp of a used vertical pair. Believed to be the only example so far recorded
