    1d yellow-green, SG 41 (Sc 31), strip of five, single and pair tied by Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' to 1857 (4 Apr) cover Melbourne to Beechworth at 8d double Inland Letter rate. The crest on flap indicates the sender was Fergusson & Mitchell, Engravers, from whom John Mitchell in his own right had submitted an unsuccessful tender for the Emblems contract (see Lot 1322).     4d brown-vermilion, SG 42a, and largely full-margined imperf. 1/- blue (SG 25) strip of three tied by Barred Numeral \\\'72\\\' to 1857 (22 Jul) Official cover (tear at left) Sale to Melbourne, paying 4d Inland Letter rate x10. Originally franked with 1/- strip only (x9 rate), the 4d added subsequently and tied when article was found to be insufficiently franked. Rare combination of adhesives

Rare and attractive franking for 1/- rate
