On his death in 1898 he held 5,329,214 acres and left an estate of £2,000,000.

Lot 1248		Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $3,800 3d: Printing Stone \\\'B\\\' 3d greenish blue, SG 29a, pair and single, unusually tied by solitary strike of Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' larger type to 1858 (16 Oct) cover Melbourne to U.K. per \\\'Victoria\\\', 9d rate via Marseilles. The \\\'Victoria\\\' had its engine flooded out of Galle (Ceylon) and the mails were transferred to \\\'Oneida\\\', which in turn broke a shaft on the next leg of the voyage, arriving at Aden under sail.
