    3d: Printing Stone \\\'B\\\' 3d greenish blue, SG 29a, full-margined vertical pair tied by Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' to 1858 (18 Feb) cover Melbourne to Deniliquin (N.S.W.), backstamped Melbourne, Echuca, Moama. Ex Caspary, Forster, Perry. Historical note: The addressee, James Tyson, was amongst the very wealthiest in the Australian Colonies. On his death in 1898 he held 5,329,214 acres and left an estate of £2,000,000.

    3d: Printing Stone \\\'B\\\' 3d greenish blue pair [15-16], SG 29a, \\\'abnormals\\\' from base margin of sheet, large margins elsewhere, tied by Barred Numeral \\\'2\\\' to 1858 (15 Oct) cover Geelong to U.K., paying 6d Ship Letter rate. Ex Purves, Perry

    3d: Printing stone \\\'B\\\' 3d greenish blue, SG 29a, full-margined vertical pair tied by Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' to 1858 (16 Oct) cover Melbourne to U.K. per \\\'Victoria\\\', paying 6d Ship Letter rate. This cover was involved in a Maritime dual interrupted-mail incident (See also Lots 1248 and 1249)

    Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $3,800

    3d: Printing Stone \\\'B\\\' 3d greenish blue, SG 29a, pair and single, unusually tied by solitary strike of Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' larger type to 1858 (16 Oct) cover Melbourne to U.K. per \\\'Victoria\\\', 9d rate via Marseilles. The \\\'Victoria\\\' had its engine flooded out of Galle (Ceylon) and the mails were transferred to \\\'Oneida\\\', which in turn broke a shaft on the next leg of the voyage, arriving at Aden under sail. Remarkable dual incident item. Ex Purves, Perry

    Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $9,750

    3d: Printing Stone \\\'B\\\' 3d greenish blue pair [17-18], [17] the retouch (SG 29b), large-margined except at top, tied by strike of Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' (almost identical in nature to that in preceding lot), and carried on same departure of \\\'Victoria\\\', destined for France for which at 6d it was underpaid for the 9d rate, but allowed transit regardless without taxing other than for the usual \\\'5\\\' (decimes) French charge for n incoming letter. With the preceding lot, an extraordinary pair of survivors, and a superb duo for any important exhibit of Maritime Incident Mail. Ex Purves, Perry
