    Estimate: $700

    Exhibition pages comprising the first portion of the National One Frame 'Grand Award' exhibit, describing in detail some of the research data used in the 2007 monograph, included are the main types and shades plus the 1d Orange-Brown 'Reading' cards used Geelong to Collingwood and Melbourne to North Brighton, together with an unused example. Total unused (15), used/CTO (3)

    Estimate: $1,500

    Proof supplied to Cameron Bros & Co, bearing one of the two advertisements for the company. One of two recorded, the other being in the Printer's archive

     

    Lot 190
    Estimate: $1,500

    The complete set of Plate and sub-types comprising unused (20, including both Cameron Bros & Co advertising types), used (3) and CTO (2), plus sub-type variety B7a, odd blemish, mostly fine (26). Believed to be the only known complete set

    Two examples with extensive mss. details regarding the issue, objections and withdrawal, one a CTO example sent under separate cover to UK (Feb 1896), the other unused, minor ageing. [The latter card is illustrated on p25 of the 2007 monograph]

    Cameron Bros & Co illustrated cards, the two different types unused, and a regular card with printed meeting notice on reverse used May 1895. Also Cameron Bros. Envelope (repaired) with 'advertising collar' used 1894 to Williamstown (4 items)

    1895 commercial use of cards from Dandenong, Prahran and Beechworth with '33', '69' and '9' duplexes, used between 9th and 22nd November (3)

    1895-96 'double use' of card, firstly to Moonee Valley on 25 Nov 1895, original message and address covered with stamp selvedge and re-used 15 Jan 1896 Melbourne to NZ via Sydney (mss.), arrival backstamp, some staining from selvedge. Unusual

     

    Lot 197
    Estimate: $1,500 Realised Price : $1,900

    1895 (2 Nov) the famous 'James Ballantyne' paste over card, with printed memo on reverse for meeting of Presbytery of Melbourne South. The 'Argus' newspaper of 4 November reports of the public dissatisfaction with this card, resulting in the advertisement being covered with brown paper. Minor blemishes, otherwise a great rarity and possibly the only survivor of the Church protest against the card

    Estimate: $600 Realised Price : $1,450

    1895 (9 Nov) use Melbourne to Bendigo with printed notice for 'United Hustler's & Redan Company' on reverse, card reduced at left and consequently taxed, 'T 2D' within oval in black, 2d Due affixed, tied by 'L.C.3' boxed datestamp. The addressee declined to pay the tax, thus framed 'REFUSED/ON ACCOUNT/OF TAX' cachet in black, postman's mss. endorsement 'Refused on a/c tax', DLO datestamp

    Estimate: $600 Realised Price : $950

    1895 (11 Nov) use Melbourne to Albert Park of half card wilfully damaged prior to use and thus taxed, 'T 2D' within oval in black, 2d Due affixed, tied by cds duplex, postman's mss. endorsement '2d pd' (by the addressee). Remarkable survivor

    Estimate: $250

    1895 (11 Nov) use to Chas Franklin (director of Cameron Bros & Co) informing him of a directors' meeting '& for further consideration of balance sheet'. This meeting was also held to confirm action taken by the managing director, suggesting cancellation of the Postal Card advertising contract with the PMG's Department

    Estimate: $400 Realised Price : $300

    1895 (11 Nov) use Melbourne to England, uprated with 1d and ½d tied by Melbourne duplexes, the 1½d uprate complying with the UPU regulation regarding advertising on the front of postal cards, the writer comments '& this card may become scarce as there is strong opposition to it from the 'T.T.'s' and others', minor soiling. [Illustrated on the front cover of the 2007 monograph]

    Estimate: $100

    1895 (12 Nov) use Melbourne to Launceston between two stamp collectors, the writer asking for 'long necked Queens...etc', arrival backstamp, minor blemishes

    Estimate: $400 Realised Price : $360

    1895 (12 Nov) underpaid use of card Melbourne to Germany, uprated with ½d only tied by Melbourne duplexes, paying only the normal rate and ignoring the UPU regulation regarding advertising on the front of postal cards, mss. 2d and 'T (10c mss.) within oval, Hamburg arrival datestamp. [Illustrated on p25 of the 2007 monograph]

    1895 (13 Nov) commercial use Melbourne to Ipswich, printed 'WEEKLY MARKET REPORT' (produce) on reverse, Sydney transit and arrival datestamps, minor blemishes

    1895 (14 Nov) commercial use South Yarra to Sydney from Harry Blashki to his brother Aaron, giving detailed account on reverse of the controversy surround the card, minor blemishes [Blashki being of Lodge Regalia fame]

    1895 (19 Nov) commercial official last day of use from Beaconsfield Railway Station to New Zealand, '1320' duplex in blue, Christchurch arrival datestamps, contents refer to '& chess tournament and public objection to card'

    1895 (19 Nov) official last day of use from Rutherglen to Wangaratta, with '318' duplex, arrival datestamp at lower left, minor blemishes

     

    Lot 208
    Estimate: $200 Realised Price : $200

    1895 (27 Nov) commercial use Portarlington to Northcote, with '614' duplex, arrival backstamp, carried aboard 'S.S. Edina' which carried goods, passengers and mail within Port Phillip Bay, some creasing. Very scarce maritime use, with reference to this service written on reverse

    Estimate: $250

    1895 (3 Dec) use Melbourne to Adelaide between well known collectors O W Rosehain and F Krischauff, with comments '& I find there are 2 printings, look at the wavy lines'. Interesting

    1896 and 1897 late uses, at Melbourne with meeting notice for 'The Victorian Poultry & Kennel Club' and Ballarat to Creswick Road addressed to 'German Laundry'

    Estimate: $60 Realised Price : $46

    1896 (9 Apr) late use to Sydney cancelled by 'TPO/UP TRAIN/MG3', arrival datestamp, message on reverse 'This kind of postcard was issued/for a short time, the people of Victoria/rebelled against it, so it was withdrawn/& the old kind taken up again in 1895./So the Govt. lost the £1000 they were to/get for the advertisements!. It is larger/than the other one, but too hideous!! These are not to be had now anywhere.

    1935 (16 Feb) extremely late use from Alec Rosenblum to A Wallis (school teacher, part-time stamp dealer) at Doreen, with message 'Any chance of any Aust. high/values?. Have clients waiting./Can also do with 1/- Cent 9d Mac A./and 1/6 Mercury'
