1917 (4 Apr) cover addressed to Sydney endorsed Mesopotamia 1/4/17' on reverse, with Indian type 'F.P.O./No. 55' cds backstamp, and with straight-line 'PASSED BY CENSOR' (55 x 5mm) in purple, and double circle 'PASSED/D/CENSOR' in red. In late 1916 a squadron of 120 Australians were sent to Mesopotamia to perform wireless duties, attached to Indian units. These Australian troops remained in the area until November 1919, and were the last Australians actively engaged in operations connected with the World War.
