    1940s airmail cover to Melbourne with enclosed letter, unloaded at Brisbane (likely en route from Papua New Guinea) where cancelled by security 5-bars obliterator, and censor and rare 'SOLDIERS/MAIL' applied

    1943 (13 Apr) 1d Green postal card uprated with 1941 1d Red-brown, used from Melbourne to Summer Hill (NSW) with printed message on reverse from the Military History Section, L.H.Q. regarding the delivery of the Army Christmas book "Soldiering On". Few small marks, otherwise fine and unusual

    1944 (21 Feb) unstamped cover to N.S.W. with good strike of 'R.A.F. P.O./004', in use in Portuguese Azores, R.A.F. Censor, flap endorsed by RAAF F/O.W.J. Youll, with accompanying 1965 letter from Francis J. Field attesting rarity. (A small contingent of RAAF were seconded for a few weeks as part of Battle of the Atlantic defences at Terceira Is, Azores)

    1944 (28 Jul) airmail stampless cover (flapless) to N.S.W. with slightly smudged but clear Australian 'AIR FORCE POST OFFICE/No 254' cds, RAAF Censor handstamp, earlier use (at Mindoro, Philippines?) than Proud's date of 26 August 1944

    1945 Australian Forces registered airmail cover to Tasmania bearing 3d pair tied by fine 'AUST ARMY P.O./17OC45/239' cds in use at Labuan, handstamped registration details at left with manuscript 'APO/239', backstampings including very fine Morotai 'No 6 AUST BASE P.O./D'. Registered mail is very scarce

F.P.O./4' cds. Rare modern postal history
