    1929-1940 group of airmail covers to U.K. showing various rate make-ups, with 1929 from Melbourne via Karachi with 1½d KGV and 3d Airmail (x 3), 1934 advertising cover from Sydney with 2d Victorian Centenary and 6d Kookaburra (x 2), 1934 from Stanley (Tas) with 1/6d Hermes, 1935 from Melbourne with 5d KGV and 3d Victorian Centenary, 1935 from Melbourne with 1/4d KGV and 3d Victorian Centenary, 1936 from Launceston with 3d pair and 1/- S.A. Centenary, 1937 from Surrey Hills (Vic) with S.A. Centenary set and 1d KGV, 1940 clipper cover from Sydney with 5d Merino pair and 5/- Robes and with 'PRISONER OF WAR SERVICE'. A few minor blemishes on some covers, otherwise an attractive selection (7 covers)

    1929 (9 May) cover from London to Consulate of Switzerland (Melbourne) endorsed alongside (and tying) Air Mail label 'Till Marseilles/and again in/Australia', franked 7½d to include 3d airmail surcharges x 2 to France and within Australia, despatched in time and intended for first acceptance of Perth-Adelaide airmail (AAMC 137) in which it was a rare entrant. Pencilled on reverse is 'First acceptance for flight Perth/Adelaide'

    1931 (9 Nov) Australia - England Special Air Mail Flight commemorative cover franked 2d Kingsford Smith, 3d Airmail and 6d Airmail pair sent registered from Sydney to London, with request to return unopened to the sender. This was done without the addition of British postage, and the cover was taxed, with boxed 'TAXED/(10d)/No. 3 SYDNEY' in red, and block of 4 and single 2d postage dues affixed and cancelled Newtown cds, 19 JA 32. Small cover tear at right, and some foxing around adhesives

    Group of airmail covers bearing 9d or 2/- Kangaroo frankings, with 1933 2d envelope from Sydney to France to France uprated with 9d and underpaid, 1934 from Toowoomba to Scotland with 9d pair and 2d Victorian Centenary via Karachi service, 1935 from Sydney to Germany with 2/- plus 1d late fee, 1935 covers to Batavia (2) from Melbourne or Sydney with single 9d frankings, latter with additional 1d late fee, 1937 Sydney to Munich with 2/- plus 1d late fee, 1938 Coogee to London with 9d pair, 1937 re-addressed from Melbourne to New York via Hong Kong with 2/- pair, 2d KGV and 6d Airmail (creases clear of stamps), 1938 from Sydney to Munich (2, from same correspondence) with 9d plus 1/- Lyrebird.     Group of airmail covers to Batavia, with 1935 (2) and 1937 (2) different make-ups of 9d half oz. rate, one with additional 1d late fee, another with solo franking of 9d NSW Sesquicentenary (BW cat AU$750), 1935 1/6d Hermes solo franking for double rate, and 1946 with 1/6d Hermes sent from Sydney and via Netherlands Post Office Brisbane (violet datestamp). Flap faults of some, otherwise generally fine (6 covers)

    Group of airmail covers to U.S.A. and Canada, with 1935 uprated 2d envelope to Quebec with 2/2d franking, 1938 Melbourne to New York with 4d Koala pair and 3d KGVI, and 1945 Sydney to Boston with 4d Koala pair, both paying U.S. airmail only, 1937 covers (2) Sydney to New York with 1/8d frankings (including 2d late fee), 1937 and 1938 covers to Ohio with different make-ups of 1/7d rate, and 1940 cover from Casino to British Columbia with 5/- Robes solo franking, a 1/1d overpayment of the 3/11d rate via Transpacific Clipper service. A fine and attractive group (8 covers)

    1935 (23 Jan) airmail cover from Skipton GB to Hotel Windsor Melbourne, where unclaimed, 'Not Known . . .' and rare 'RETURNED TO/CITY SECTION FROM' handstruck markings, Hotel label affixed and returned to sender. On the outbound journey this was carried by Flight IE309 in which 'Athena' force-landed at Surabaya NEI due to a broken exhaust (confirmed by Sydney arrival Feb 9). Very few examples of this little known near tragic 'Athena' incident, prior to the catastrophic event of Sep 30 1936, are recorded

    1936 (28 Jan) commercial airmail cover (minor flap blemish) Sydney to Philippine Islands franked 10d for half oz., scarce rate and destination. Also 1949 (25 Jul) airmail cover to I.R.O.-U.N.E.C. Samar, Philippines at scarce 1/6d rate (Hermes single franking), with fine 'IRO-UNEC/AUG 4/POST OFFICE rubber datestamp on reverse, mail to this International Refugee Organisation is rare (2 covers)

    1937 (4-9 Jan) cover flown on return flight by Mandated Airlines, Sydney to Salamaua and returned by sera mail via Brisbane where New Guinea adhesives were cancelled by Brisbane cds 27 JAN 37, signed by pilot R.O. Mant. AAMC 703, cat AU$900, only five carried

    1939 (27 Apr) and (22 Jun) covers from Charing Cross (NSW) to Minneapolis, Minnesota franked 3d blue KGVI for surface rate, with pair of U.S. 3c commemoratives added for internal U.S. air mail, cancelled at San Pedro (Calif). Plus 1939 (30 Mar) cover from the same correspondence with 3d Blue and U.S. 3c definitive pair and 10c special delivery all cancelled at Charing Cross, with 'Special Delivery - Air Mail' handstamp and boxed 'NOT ELIGIBLE FOR.AERIAL MAIL FEE/DEFICIENT./SYDNEY NO. 2' both in violet. Few cover creases but an interesting trio (3 covers)

    1940 (20 May) Columbia Pictures cover (blemishes) Sydney to New York by airmail bearing 1/6d Hermes pair + QE 1d tied by GPO Sydney cds, Sydney censor tape/handstamp (1.7d first half oz. + 1/6d additional half oz.)

    Small group of airmail covers to Europe, with 1942 (31 Aug) Swedish Chamber of Commerce Sydney cover (opened three sides) with typewritten 'London-Sweden' franked 7d and with; London oval 'O.A.T.' and censor handstamps in red; 1938 covers (x 2) from Danish consulate Sydney to Copenhagen franked 2/2d and 2/7d for full airmail service via Greece and airmail to U.K. only; and 1959 cover from Crow's Nest to Finland with 4d PO Sesquicentenary (curious 'dry ink' effect) and 2/- Abo Art (4 covers)
