    AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH, AEROPHILATELY/FLIGHT COVERS

    Estimate: $10,000

    1919 (11 Nov) cover addressed to London, flown on the Bandar Abbas to Karachi stage of the flight per Caudron G4 \'La Mouche\' (The Fly) and endorsed at left \'By aeroplane to/Karachi - by kind/Favour of H. Poulet/--M. Benoist\', adhesives tied by Karachi datestamps. This flight which began in Paris enroute to Australia was abandoned in Moulamein, Burma. Includes photocopy of original contents, AAMC 25a. One of the great items of aerophilately, with only eight examples recorded

    1926 (Sep) cover flown by Alan Cobham on Calcutta to London stage of the return flight to U.K., typewritten label on reverse 'CARRIED BY MR. ALAN/COBHAM'S DE HAVILLAND/MACHINE ON HIS FLIGHT/FROM AUSTRALIA.', India adhesives cancelled on arrival in London. Includes original letter from Akyab, Burma hand-carried privately to Calcutta for return to London, AAMC 101a. Believed to be the only known example carried from Calcutta

    1927 (Jul) Cloncurry to Normanton (signed by Hudson Fysh) and return flight, the former with black/red vignette, both with cachets/handstamps, minor blemishes, AAMC 106-7 (2)

    1931 (21 Jul) cover addressed to Iceland, flown Manila to Japan by Francis Chichester, numbered '84' in his hand, arrival backstamp. The plane crashed on landing and the flight abandoned. AAMC 212, Nierinck 310700b

    1932 (12 Dec) cover to NSW flown Darwin to Brisbane by Canadian pilot J.R. Hebert (signed) on the final leg of England to Australia flight. His Gypsy Moth crashed at Cloncurry, then carried safe-by-hand on a commercial flight, adhesive cancelled on arrival in Brisbane, AAMC 284. Only 12 carried

    1935 (18 Jul) cover flown Mascot to Richmond on the last flight of the 'Southern Cross', single example of the perforated vignette affixed, signed by pilot Charles Kingsford Smith and the other six onboard including Mary Kingsford Smith, B Sheil, J Stannage and P.G. Taylor. Cover numbered '131', AAMC 515

    1938 (18 Mar) cover flown Darwin to London in a Percival Vega Gull 'Sirius', Lympne arrival cachet in violet and typewritten endorsement 'Australia to England/5 days, 4hrs, 21 mins/Record Solo Flight /by Jim Broadbent', AAMC 804. Only 40 flown

    1938 (28 Oct) commercial cover flown Melbourne to Sydney with framed 'EXPRESS/ SERVICE' in violet, endorsed 'URGENT' in red, bearing 4d Koala and KGV 5d paying 3d per ½oz air mail fee + 2d postage + 4d express delivery fee, time-clock cancel in violet on reverse, minor flap blemish

    1941 (19 Dec) 'Medan crash cover' (charred) carried from Perth with one adhesive fallen off, together with envelope for containment of damaged cover, addressed 'C Troop 6th battery/2/3 Field Regiment/AIF/ABROAD', with two-line cachet 'CAUTION PLEASE/BURNED AIR MAIL' and at lower left double-oval 'POST - TELEGRAAF/MEDAN/EN TELEFOONDIERS' both in violet, cancelled 'AUST BASE P.O./No. 4/11JA42', roughly opened, AAMC 934a. Important item for the air mail and Netherlands Indies collector. previously unknown with cachets. The first example we have offered

    1953 (2 Jun) 'Coronation' supplied order with accompanying letter in QANTAS envelope (damaged/roughly opened) comprising airletters flown from twelve different origins to London, including Cocos, Fiji with a scarce use of 3d issue with adhesives affixed, also covers Singapore to London and London to Australia
