Lot 470		Estimate: $6,000 Realised Price : $4,800 Experimental roulettes: 3d Blue pair, SG 48, creased at top, tied by Barred Oval '1' to 1854 (3 Aug) cover Melbourne to Geelong, paying 6d Inland letter rate. Once thought to be a private roulette, Kellow states 'It is now considered distinctly possible that some official experimentation with a rouletting machine took place in Melbourne in the latter part of 1854, and that small quantities of a number of different stamps were treated.'
