    1833 entire Hobart Town to London, rated '3d' in red, framed 'SHIP LETTER/MARGATE' in black on reverse, arriving 9th Dec 1833

     

    Lot 209
    Estimate: $2,500

    1834 (July) entire Port Arthur to London, endorsed 'Paid 5d', '5' and 'Country'. The closest post office to Port Arthur then was Sorell, which was 14 miles from Hobart Town, therefore the rate was 2d for inland coneyance + 3d Ship Letter. The 'Country' endorsement was to show that the letter had not originated in Hobart Town and been treated as a double or triple letter
