    Imperforate plate proof in Black on white wove paper, block of 4, very fine. Ex J.S. White

    Imperforate plate proof in Grey-brown from base of sheet on unwatermarked thin wove paper, some fox spots

    Greenish-grey horizontal strip of six with prominent pre-printing crease on left stamp, right-hand pair with small faults at top, cancelled by unclear '81' numeral of Warwick (Moreton Bay District). The equal largest used multiple of any 6d shade, ex C.L. Pack

    Greenish-grey block of four with good to large margins all round, cancelled by dumb obliterator. A very scarce block in this condition, ex Burrus and 'Manwood'

    Estimate: $600

    Greenish-grey block of four in a bright shade with margins three sides, just cut into at top left, cancelled by dumb obliterator. A very scarce multiple, ex 'Manwood'

     

    Lot 81
    Estimate: $1,500

    Greenish-grey with four good margins, cancelled dumb obliterator on 1856 (7 Feb) envelope from Sydney to Sandhurst, U.K., endorsed 'Per Hellespont via Southampton'. With handstruck '3' accountancy mark in red, manuscript '4' and circular 'MORE/TO/PAY' in black tying adhesive. The 'Hellespont' was a private ship which carried mail as far as Singapore to connect with the Far East P & O service. On arrival in London the G.P.O. added the 4d charge for the Far East leg of the journey, hence the 'MORE/TO/PAY handstamp and manuscript '4'. One of only two 'Hellespont' covers originating from N.S.W. and an important postal history item, ex Trevor Davis

    Greenish-grey good to clear margins cancelled dumb obliterator (not tied) on 1856 (21 May) entire from Sydney to Bath U.K. endorsed 'per Ship Royal Charter' handstruck '3' accountancy mark in red, 'AUSTRALIAN/PAID/ LIVERPOOL/PACKET' d.s. in red (12 AU 56), London PAID d.s. (13 AU 1856), and with Bath arrival d.s. (AU 14 1856) on reverse. Some soiling and cover faults

    Slate-green good to large margins tied by dumb obliterator to 1855 (4 Dec) entire from Sydney to Glasgow endorsed 'per Emma from Melbourne' with handstruck '5' accountancy mark in red also tying adhesive. 'AUSTRALIAN/PAID/LIVERPOOL/PACKET' d.s. in red for 26 MR 1856 on face, and Glasgow arrival backstamp (MR 27 1856). A fine 'clipper' cover carried by the White Star Line

    Slate-green large margins two sides, just cut into at top tied by dumb obliterator to 1856 (11 Dec) entire from Sydney to Reunion endorsed 'via Point de Galle Per first mail steamer'. Crowned 'MAURITIUS/G.P.O.' d.s of FE 18 1857 also tying adhesive, reverse with boxed 'M & I' and arrival datestamp. Very rare, with only one other cover from N.S.W. to Reunion recorded, ex Trevor Davis

    Bluish-grey with clear to good margins cancelled (not tied) by dumb obliterator on 1857 (10 Sep) entire from Sydney to Manila, with handstruck '1' (reales) delivery charge and Manila arrival backstamp for 14 11 1857. Fine and scarce, ex Trevor Davis

    Fawn clear to large margins and showing portion of adjoining unit at base tied by Sydney duplex on 1859 (24 Sep) envelope, with contents addressed to Government House, Hobart endorsed 'pr Tasmania'. Stamp also tied by 'SHIP LETTER INWARDS FREE' d.s. 28 SP 28 1859 in black. Very fine

    Estimate: $450

    Grey margins all round and showing sheet margin at right used with 3d Laureate (cut into at top and upper left, with portion of adjoining unit at base) tied by Sydney dumb obliterator to 1855 (8 Sep) envelope to London endorsed 'via Melbourne p "Kent" '. Manuscript '3'(d) accountancy in red, and London arrival d.s for 28 NO 1855 also tying stamp. A fine 'clipper' cover

    Grey margins three sides and into at top cancelled 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals (not tied) on 1859 (16 Mar) mourning envelope from Sydney to Hobart. Sydney despatch d.s. on reverse, and with 'SHIP LETTER INWARDS FREE' d.s. 21 MR 21 1859 in red. Attractive and clean

     

    Lot 89
    Estimate: $750

    Grey and Greyish-brown, both with clear to good margins, cancelled Sydney 'N.S.W.' duplex on 1859 (16 Nov) cover to Dublin (JA 13 1860 d.s. on reverse). Few ink marks on face do not detract unduly from this very unusual combination use of two different 6d printings to meet the double packet rate via Southampton

    Olive-grey with clear to large margins cancelled (not tied) by dumb obliterator on 1857 (19 Aug) entire from Sydney to Hong Kong endorsed 'p Irina Brons', manuscript '4' accountancy marking and Hong Kong arrival backstamp. Fine condition to a scarce destination

One 6d crossed by vertical filing crease, still a scarce 2/- Marseilles rate cover

    Greyish-brown large margins all round tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals duplex on mourning envelope to New York, with San Francisco transit d.s (OCT 22 1859) and handstruck 'SHIP' and '12'. Very fine, and a scarce trans-Pacific cover

    Greyish-brown pair with good to large margins tied by 'N.S.W. in concentric ovals to 1860 (14 Jan) envelope (flap missing) from Sydney to Sheffield, U.K. Envelope slightly ragged along edges, still a fine double rate usage
