Lot 350
| | Estimate: $1,000 | Realised Price : $800 |
1885 inwards cover franked with GB 1881 1d lilac tied by 'A26' obliterator with 'GIBRALTAR/B/DE29/85" addressed to 'Harry Wales/Australia, 'Diamond with line through and endorsed at left 'St Vincent's Hospital/Sydney', charged for postage, due to being under-franked for mail to Australia, then recognised as concessionary mail. The manuscript '10cts' and 'T' handstamp deleted, the latter by worn 'A26' postmark, reverse with datestamps of Port Said & Suez (12.1.86) and Sydney 16.2.86, few minor blemishes, though a rare example of inwards concessionary rate to a serviceman and a most unusual origin. Late use of GB used abroad, Gibraltar discontinuing this just two days later. Ex Osborn |
