1/- Pale Red (clear to large margins) and 2d Blue (touched right and top left) tied by dumb obliterators on 1857 (23 May) entire from Sydney to New York, endorsed 'Per "Simla" via England', mss '8' and '16' accountancy marks in red, London PAID datestamp* in red (3 AU 1857), 'AUSTRALIAN/PAID/LIVERPOOL/PACKET' datestamp in red (AU 1 57), and '5/N. YORK AM PKT' arrival datestamp of AUG 17. This Australian mail carried by E&ARM packet 'Simla' was transferred to the 'Scamander' at Alexandria, which unusually docked at Liverpool instead of the usual terminus of Southampton.
