    1885-1904 POSTAGE OVERPRINTS ON STAMP DUTIES, WMK CROWN OVER NSW TYPE I - BLUE OVERPRINT

    10/- Mauve and Claret Perf. 10 on Blued Paper large part original gum and excellent colour, centred slightly to top and one short perf. at right. A rarity in this condition. SG 241, Cat. £1100

     

    Lot 747
    Estimate: $2,000 Realised Price : $1,500

    10/- Mauve and Claret Perf. 10 x 12 on Blued Paper small part original gum and a number of strong tone spots on reverse, several of which show through to face. A major rarity, unlisted by Stanley Gibbons, and no record can be traced of any other example of this perforation. Ex Ferrary

    10/- Mauve and Claret Perf. 12 on Blued Paper centred lower left with large part original gum, and showing misplaced vignette and frame. Fine and rare in this condition. SG 241b, Cat. £225

    -10/- Mauve and Claret Perf. 12 on Blued Paper used (2), one with small thin, other with line wmk from right side of sheet. Also optd. ‘Specimen’ (McCredie Type 10) no gum with line wmk from top of sheet (3)

       

    Lot 750
    Estimate: $4,000 Realised Price : $10,500

    £1 Rose-lilac and Claret Perf. 12 x 10 from bottom right corner of pane with large part original gum, few gum creases and vertical fold through right selvedge, otherwise very fresh with excellent perforations and unusually well-centred for this stamp. Possibly the finest example of this rare stamp available. Only 18 stamps from this printing were issued for use, and it is unknown in used condition despite the pricing in the catalogue. All mint examples probably derive from a small remainder retained by the Post Office and used for presentation purposes after the States issues became obsolete. SG 242, Cat. £5000

    £1 Rose-lilac and Claret Perf. 12 x 10 optd. ‘REPRINT’ (4, one with imperforate right margin showing portion of Plate No., and one badly faded). Also Black Opt. Perf. 12 optd. ‘Specimen’ (McCredie Type 8) without gum (5)
