    THE KEN BARELLI CLASSIC VICTORIA, 1852-56 2D QUEEN-ON-THRONE, 1855-56 LITHOGRAPHED BY CAMPBELL & FERGUSSON

    Estimate: $5,000

    Stone A: 2d lilac \\\'TVO\\\' variety [48], SG 36b, in superb [47-48] pair, cancelled Barred Numeral \\\'23\\\' (Buninyong). The premier example amongst the small number of used recorded of this celebrated creased transfer variety. Ex Amundsen, Boker, Perry. Illustrated Kellow page 77

    Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $575

    Stone A: 2d lilac pairs [29/39] and [37-38], large-margined, which reconstruct to form the balance of the creased transfer which produced the \\\'TVO\\\' variety (SG 36b), the affected areas extending in a diagonal line through [29], [39] and [38], respectively. These varieties are of equal rarity to their more famous cousin. Ex Perry. Illustrated Kellow page 77 (together with \\\'TVO\\\' item which precedes this lot)

    Stone A: 2d purple (SG 36a) remarkable large-margined block of four [37-38/47-48] on 1856 (12 Apr) Official cover (a little stained at left) locally addressed at Melbourne and paid for extraordinary quadruple Town Letter rate, the block tied by filing pinhole (upper left unit) and 2mm punch hole, which extends through lower left unit and cover, these apparently related to Post Office handling, \\\'ADVERTISED/AND/ UNCLAIMED\\\' and rare oval \\\'T.C/AP 14/1856\\\' (in red) applied. Kellow records six blocks of four in the Campbell & Fergusson printings, this being the only example on cover. One of the most spectacular frankings of the \\\'Queen-on-Throne\\\' series.     Lot 1308
    Estimate: $750

    Stone B: 2d brown [2], SG 37, large-margined, lightly cancelled, slight stain on reverse. This extremely rare shade, similar to Ham\\\'s \\\'chestnut\\\' (SG 18a) and Campbell\\\'s \\\'black\\\' (SG 22a), is believed to be a proof/colour trial pressed in to postal use. Kellow states \\\'about one dozen copies known\\\', clearly confirming that at £70 the catalogue value is irrelevant. Ex Perry

    Stone C Substitutions (SG 37d, 38d): [20-2] in warm purple, the [20] a substitution for [1], large-margined, lightly cancelled Barred Oval \\\'24\\\' (Ballarat).
