    THE KEN BARELLI CLASSIC VICTORIA, 1850-59 HALF-LENGTHS, 1859 PERFORATED 12 BY ROBINSON

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d blue, SG 78, tied by Melbourne \\\'killer\\\' to 1859 (17 Sep) entire letter to U.K., intended for the Marseilles route but another adhesive has dislodged after cancellation was applied (presumably a 6d to complete the 9d via Marseilles rate) and the article has been sent via Southampton, the 3d deficiency for that route being indicated by U.K. \\\'MORE/TO/PAY\\\' and \\\'Deficient Postage 3d/Fine 9d\\\' markings. Ex Perry

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d blue, SG 78, Perkins Bacon 6d, and 1/- Octagonal tied by Melbourne \\\'1\\\' to 1859 (17 Sep) cover to U.K. per \\\'Bombay\\\' via Marseilles, paying 1/9d triple rate for that route. An attractive and rare combination franking. Ex Forster, Perry

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d blue, SG 78, unusually deep shade, and \\\'Emblems\\\' 1d green (SG 84) tied by Barred Numeral \\\'1\\\' to 1860 (9 Feb) cover Melbourne to Portland, paying Inland Letter rate. A rare franking combination. Ex Perry

Campbell printings: 3d blue, SG 78, singles (2), irregularly scissor-separated, tied by Melbourne \\\'1\\\' to 1859 (18 Oct) cover to U.K., intended for the Marseilles route but at 6d paid only for Southampton route, double-oval \\\'INSUFFICIENTLY PAID/VIA MARSEILLES\\\' indicating the destined route. Ex Perry

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d blue, SG 78, vertical pair unused part o.g., faint crease in lower unit. The perforated stamp is extremely rare unused. Two pairs are recorded, the other being in The Royal Collection. Ex Duveen, Pack, Forster, Perry. Illustrated Kellow colour plate 4

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d blue, SG 78, pair cancelled by Barred Numeral \\\'93\\\' on 1859 (13 August) cover (creases) Ararat to U.K., paying 6d Ship Letter rate. Rare provincial use of the perforated issue. Ex Frazer

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d Retouched (SG 78a): [17] retouch under \\\'C\\\' of \\\'VICTORIA\\\', cancelled Melbourne \\\'1\\\' clear of subject area, retouch extremely rare in perforated issue. Ex Pack, Forster, Perry

    J.S. Campbell printings: 3d Retouched, SG 78a, [17] retouch under \\\'C\\\' of \\\'VICTORIA\\\', upper right unit with [2] and [8] tied by Melbourne \\\'1\\\' to 1859 (18 Jun) cover to France per \\\'Oneida\\\', paying 9d direct rate via Marseilles. The \\\'TOO LATE\\\' marking indicates posted after closing time in which event it was held over for next mail despatch. The [17] retouch remarkably is from \\\'abnormal\\\' position, note wide right margin and missing N.E. corner square which is characteristic of that position. One of the great perforated Half-length covers. Illustrated Kellow page 62. Ex Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson printings: 1d brown Stone \\\'2\\\' printing, as SG 26 for imperforate, cancelled Barred Oval \\\'5\\\' (Ballarat). The only example recorded. Illustrated Kellow colour plate 4. Ex Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson printings: 1d lilac-rose Stones \\\'4/5\\\' printing, as SG 28b for imperforate, unused, tiny thin, the perforations so misplaced as to suggest this may have been an experimental trial of the perforating machine. The only unused example recorded. Illustrated Kellow colour plate 4. Ex Castle, Harvey, Perry
