    SPECIMEN STAMPS OF THE AUSTRALIAN COLONIES, NEW SOUTH WALES, REPRINTS

    Lot 55
    Estimate: $400 Realised Price : $240

    1871 Wmk Crown over NSW (I) 1d Orange-Red and Wmk Single-lined ‘2’ 2d Blue imperf Diadem reprints optd Type 4, part o.g. (2)

    The 1d and 2d Diadem reprints were printed in August 1871; 240 of each were printed, 120 of which were overprinted ‘SPECIMEN’

    1871 Wmk Crown over NSW (I) 1d Orange-Red and Wmk Single-lined ‘2’ 2d Blue imperf Diadem reprints optd Type 4, 2d close at top, no gum

     

    Lot 57

    1871 Wmk Single-lined ‘2’ 2d Blue imperf Diadem reprint horizontal pair optd Type 4, small part o.g., very scarce multiple

     

    Lot 58
    Estimate: $125 Realised Price : $190

    c.1871 No Wmk (6d) Registered imperf reprint optd Type 3, in Carmine and Blue, and Orange and blue shades, no gum (2)

    This first reprint of the (6d) Registered stamp was probably made in 1871, with perhaps two sheets (1200 stamps) printed in each shade. The Type 3 ‘SPECIMEN’ overprint is found only on this stamp

    c.1871 No Wmk (6d) Registered imperf Carmine and Blue reprint block of 4 optd Type 3, large part o.g. Vertical and horizontal creases, still a rare multiple

     

    Lot 60
    Estimate: $250 Realised Price : $150

    1892 optd ‘REPRINT’ set comprising (6d) Registered, 8d Diadem (3, Perfs 10, 11, and 12x10), 5/- Coin, 1d, 2d, 4d, 6d, 1/- De La Rue, 5/-, £1 ‘POSTAGE’ opts, and ½d on 1d Surcharge. Mostly large part o.g., one 8d thinned (13)

    This overprint was applied in 1892 to existing original remainder stocks to identify the stamps as obsolete issues. Only the Registered stamp was a true reprint

    1892 Wmk ‘5/- NSW’ in Diamond Perf 10, 5/- Mauve Centennial sheet of 50 optd ‘SPECIMEN’ Type 12. Ex 1986 Australia Post Archival sale

    Although overprinted ‘SPECIMEN’ this stamp would appear to belong to the 1892 reprints, as the other Type 12 overprints on this stamp are on the earlier lilac shade
