    Carmine pos. [9, variety ‘WALE’] good margins all round cancelled ‘2’ of Parramatta. A very fine example of this scarce variety. SG 44c, Cat. £650

    Carmine vertical pair pos. [7/17, former variety ‘no leaves right of SOUTH’] close to good margins all round and lightly cancelled, with a vertical scissor cut through the frame of the lower left corner square. A rare pair. SG 44/a, Cat. £700+

    Carmine horizontal pair pos. [14-15, latter variety ‘two leaves right of SOUTH’] close to just touching at top, large margins other sides. A rare pair with the variety. SG 44/b, Cat. £900+

    Carmine horizontal pair pos. [18-19] close to good margins all sides. A very fine pair in exceptional condition. SG 44, Cat. £500+

     

    Lot 338
    Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $575

    Carmine horizontal pair pos. [49-50] with full corner margins, close at top and showing portion of adjoining unit at left. Fine impression in a deep shade, cancelled ‘18’ of Mudgee (rated RR). There is a faint horizontal crease that does not detract at all from this extraordinary pair, ex Ginger and ‘Manwood’. SG 44, Cat. £500+

    Estimate: $600 Realised Price : $525

    Carmine vertical pair, clear to large margins, tied by smudged Sydney obliterators to 1852 (13 Feb) outer (no right flap) to West Maitland. Posted at the Cook’s River sub-office, and with boxed ‘COOKS RIVER’ in brownish-red, Sydney despatch ds and West Maitland arrival ds (FE 15 1852) on reverse. The earliest recorded date of use of this rare sub-office marking
