    LAUREATES, 6D REGISTERED, SOFT MEDIUM YELLOWISH WOVE PAPER

    Vermilion and Prussian Blue large part original gum, a number of marks on the reverse otherwise very fine and scarce. SG 102, Cat. £1200

     

    Lot 458
    Estimate: $7,500 Realised Price : $11,000

    Vermilion and Prussian Blue block of four pos. [39-40/49-50] full margins with corner selvedge and large part original gum, with a few creases (mostly gum-related), the face has some slight soiling and a number of blue printing ink smudges. These imperfections are minor considering this must be considered one of the most important blocks in New South Wales philately. Two mint blocks of imperforate (6d) Registered stamps are available in private hands. This block of four is the finer, the other being an adjoining block of six with severe creases which still resides in the Hutson collection. From the Snowden. Tomasini, Boker and ‘Manwood’ collections. SG 102, Cat. £4800+

    Vermilion and Prussian Blue margins all round used with 6d Grey imperf Diadem (large margins), tied by Sydney obliterators on 1858 (13 Mar) envelope to London. Weak oval ‘REGISTERED/SYDNEY N.S.W.’ ds in red and London arrival ‘REGISTERED/ G.P.O.’ oval ds in red (12 MY 58) on face, and with handstruck ‘6d’ for British registration also tying adhesives. Central filing fold causing partial splitting at top and reinforced at rear, otherwise very fine

    Orange and Prussian Blue good margins, cancelled ‘74’ ray numeral of Callandoon (Moreton Bay District, rated RRR), with Brun and Miró (Paris) guarantee handstamps on reverse. SG 104, Cat. £225

    Orange and Prussian Blue large margins, cancelled indistinct ray numeral. Ex Slade Slade. SG 105, Cat. £200

    Orange and Prussian Blue used with 6d Greyish-brown imperf Diadem (both large margins), tied by Sydney obliterators on 1859 (31 Jan) envelope to London. Oval ‘REGISTERED/SYDNEY N.S.W.’ ds in red and ‘REGISTERED/LONDON’ oval ds in red (1 AP 59) on face. Clean and very fine, an exceptional usage of the (6d) Registered stamp

    6d Registered - the Remainder on Soft Yellowish Paper, comprising Salmon and Indigo (3), Orange and Indigo, Orange and Prussian Blue (4) and Vermilion and Prussian Blue (8), all fine picked examples with four margins, and an exceptional group (16). SG Cat. £3030

     

    Lot 467
    Estimate: $3,000 Realised Price : $2,300

    6d Registered reconstruction of the engraved plate of 50 in various shades. The condition is much better than that usually seen with the large majority of stamps fine four-margin examples. SG Cat. approx. £8500 (50)
