1945 (12 Nov) airmail cover Newcastle to A.I.F. Private in New Guinea, carried aboard Aircraft VH-CUP which crashed 15 Nov 1945 flying between Lae and Rabaul. The cover has clearly suffered trauma and bears label inscribed \'DELAYED CORRESPONDENCE/Recovered from/crashed aircraft\', returned to sender and initialled and dated \'25/2/G.W.\' lower right, backstamped \'AUST F.P.O./25FE46/180\' datestamp, then in use at Rabaul. Proud at p568 states the mail on board ill-fated aircraft was lost. Unlisted Eustis and Nierinck. Believed to be the first mail article recorded from this incident
