    1841 (15 Mar) cover (probably a little reduced) to Liverpool, good slightly blurred strike of first type 'MELBOURNE PAID' in red (used 1838-41 only), with '8' in black, oval Melbourne/ New South Wales datestamp on reverse

    1844 (1 Jun) cover or 1846 (10 Sep) envelope with enclosure rated '6' and '1/4' or '3' and '8' and with red oval 'SHIP LETTER/MELBOURNE' datestamps; 1854 from Melbourne showing fine 'PAID MELBOURNE' oval datestamp, or from Geelong with Geelong and Melbourne backstamps, both with Liverpool Ship backstamps (2 types); 1858 from NSW showing scarce 'SHIP LETTER FREE/GEELONG' and Belfast datestamps on back (5)

A very attractive 'blues' cover

    1871 (2 Jan) entire letter to London endorsed 'Via Brindisi' bearing 1d and 6d pair tied by Melbourne duplex, London arrival, minor faults. Perhaps the most attractive of only six recorded of the short-lived 1/1d rate via this route. A new discovery

    1875 (25 Mar) cover to Scotland endorsed 'via 'Brindisi’ ‘ bearing Laureated 6d Prussian Blue (SG 136k) and 9d Red-Brown/pink pair (SG 172a), Carlisle Sorting backstamp. Fine example of double 9d per ½oz rate + 6d Late Fee, 9d multiples being rare on cover
