    Estimate: $350T

    1845 (29 Sep) entire letter headed 'Shell Island' from Mary Robson to Hobart Town, endorsed 'Paid' and '4'. Hobart segmented datestamp applied for inward paid mail. [The Robson family harvested shells for making lime]

    Estimate: $400T

    1850 (31 May) small cover from Crediton to Launceston, endorsed '8', then forwarded to Bothwell and rated '5' to be paid by the addressee, 4d incoming Ship letter + 1d for Inland delivery

    Estimate: $1,000

    1870 and 1871 two entire Letter Bills intended for Green Ponds handstamped 'MISSENT-TO/HOBART TOWN' in red and black respectively. The only other known examples are fragments, making this the only known complete 'pair'. Ex McNamee, Reid. [Realised AU$1550+ in our October 2004 Rarities Sale]

    1875 (23 Oct) cover Tasmania to Canberra bearing Sideface 1d strip of three tied by BN '12', endorsed at left 'Lower Broadmarsh 23/10/75', backstamps of Brighton, Launceston, Sydney, Goulburn, Ginninderra and Canberra, 1875 being the earliest known use of the Canberra datestamp

Oliver /Lansdowne Street', handstamped in black 'ADVERTISED/BUT UNCLAIMED', backstamped Hobart 5.12.96, 15 space table in red, initialled in three spaces, DLO (Apr 1897) cachet in red, bilingual 'Received in damaged condition in/the Returned Letter Office, London' framed cachet in violet

    1904 (23 Mar) inwards use of PPC to Ulverstone from Guadeloupe, bearing 10c tied by double-circle datestamp, Devonport West transit and arrival backstamps. Unusual origin

    1904 (May) cover Nelson (N.Z.) to Hobart showing on reverse fair strike of 'NOT KNOWN' table in red (#156), expanded from 16 to 22 spaces, and filled in to 17 spaces. Scarce. Ex Groom, Askeland, Reid

    1904 (16 Nov) use of 1d Postal Card from Launceston to 'King Island', with boxed 'POSTED OUT/OF COURSE' (deteriorated state - sides worn away). Scarce

    1905 (21 Jul) PPC used locally at Hobart bearing Pictorial ½d and 1d, the latter additionally tied by framed 'POSTED OUT/OF COURSE' in black (38x17mm - similar to type #149). Scarce

    1907 (3 Oct) cover (225x100mm) used Ballyrogan (Vic) to Hobart, damaged in transit, in addition to being underpaid. Oval 'T4D.' struck and 1902 4d Postage Due affixed, tied by Hobart cds, with fair/fine framed 'RECEIVED TORN AT G.P.O.' (unlisted type) on selvedge

    1908 (3 Feb) PPC Melbourne to Launceston showing superb strike of rare 'Transmission of Tinselled/Post Cards Prohibited.', in addition to D.L.O. datestamps of Tasmania and Victoria. Earliest recorded date. Ex Groom, Askeland
