    1923 (Sep) cover addressed to 'Captain A.C. Jowett' used from Melbourne to Toowoomba and then re-addressed to Clifton, franked with KGV 4d Blue (2) paying the quadruple 2oz rate. (The addressee was the son of Edmund Jowett, who on his passing in 1936 was regarded as one of the world's great pastoralists, BW cat 4d Blue on cover AU$600

    Victorian Commemorative Covers: Mostly commercially used, with 1926 'Back to Donald' (rare Massey cds), 1934 'Back to Euroa', Centenaries 1938 Geelong (4, three illustrated, four different labels), Ballarat (registered), and Wangaratta Cobbs Mail Coach, 1954 Maryborough, 1974 Gembrook and 1978 Mirboo North, odd fault (11)

    1932 (12 Jul) parcel tag franked with 1d and 4d KGV and 1932 6d Kookaburra cancelled 'REGISTERED/SYDNEY N.S.W.' cds, addressed to Warren (NSW) and tag with attractive thematic golf illustration

    1937-1985 Express/Special Delivery/Messenger Delivery group, appear to be almost all different rates, some nice frankings including 1959 Flowers 1/6d plus QEII 2d (29 covers)

    1939 (7 Apr) Burns Philp envelope addressed to Gizo, B.S.I., with KGV 2d red cancelled oval 'RADIO STATION/WILLIS ISLAND' ds with another strike at top left, straight-line 'WILLIS ISLAND', per (mss) 'MALAITA' all in violet, with Gizo arrival cds

    1945 (13 Dec) cover to Richmond (Qld) franked with KGVI 2½d together with multicolour 'DAY DREAM ISLAND/GREAT BARRIER REEF' advertising label alongside, tied by Proserpine cds, slight ageing. (Two similar covers in 1970s and 1980s sold for over AU$1,000 each at auction)

    New South Wales Registered Mail: Collection of covers with blue C6 labels, stated all different, essentially from 1950s and 1960s plus some earlier and later, noted Bradfield, Bullaburra, Caringbar (error), Fern Bay, Frenchs Road, Goodnight, Green Valley (cds without time, not recorded Hopson and Tobin), Herne Bay, Island Bend, Macdonaldtown, Majors Creek, Maroubra Bay, Mascot Aerodrome, McCallums Hill, Number One, Oyster Bay, Parramatta East, Picnic Point, Rufus river, Turvey Park, Twins Camp, Wanganella, Warragamba Dam, Widgiewa and Yarra Bay, condition variable although presentable (approx 820 covers)

    1950 (14 Jan) unusual cover to Victoria handstamped on reverse 'MORNINGTON ISLAND' in violet with mss 'G.W. Taylor/Supt 14/1/50', franked with ½d and 1d pair tied by 'TENNANT CREEK/N.T.' cds 21 JAN 50

     

    Lot 949
    Estimate: $180

    Cash on Delivery Mail: c1953 cardboard box front, 1957 parcel wrapper and 1966 envelope with different 'C.O.D. 2' labels used in New South Wales, the first missing corner, the last label torn on opening, rated 5/5d, 4/9d or 34c, very scarce group (3 items)

     

    Lot 950
    Estimate: $300

    1956 (6 Jun) Morris Hedstrom Ltd airmail envelope (275 x 125mm) to Samoa with Sydney machine cancel and stamps washed off, obvious damage from immersion on water, very fine strike of the straight-line 'SOILED MAIL EX VASU' handstamped in violet applied at Apia on face. (The mail was flown to Fiji, then per wooden motorship 'Vasu' which foundered in rough seas about b300km north of Tonga, and was abandoned. Brian Peace at page 322 states that '29 pieces of mail were recovered')

    1966 (10 Mar) registered Tattersalls cover from Congupna Rd (Vic) with combination of 1966 20c Bird and 1965 5d Christmas

     

    Lot 952
    Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $75

    1995 (9 Mar) parcel front from Launceston to George Town prepaid with Business Parcel/Receipted Delivery green and black label only issued in Tasmania, very few of which are likely to have survived
