1956 (6 Jun) Morris Hedstrom Ltd airmail envelope (275 x 125mm) to Samoa with Sydney machine cancel and stamps washed off, obvious damage from immersion on water, very fine strike of the straight-line 'SOILED MAIL EX VASU' handstamped in violet applied at Apia on face. (The mail was flown to Fiji, then per wooden motorship 'Vasu' which foundered in rough seas about b300km north of Tonga, and was abandoned. Brian Peace at page 322 states that '29 pieces of mail were recovered')
